Summer Reading Tour

Be c-READ-ative!

What if you were paid ten million dollars and all you had to do was paint a picture? That’s what the famous artiste Pate` Brushe` has been assigned to do, but unfortunately he has lost all of his creativity, imagination and inspiration so he has spent the last 6 months playing Guitar Hero instead of painting. But today is the day the museum is expecting the painting to be done so Pate’ is then visited by some friends who help him to “BE CREATIVE” his visitors are as follows:

  1. I.M. is Pate’s Imagination, she doesn’t normally leave his brain but this is a “Creativity Emergency” and one that needs to be dealt with quickly. His brain is like a car stalled out on the highway and it needs a jump start. So she makes a trip to the library to pick up the ultimate jumper cables: BOOKS!
  2. Block is a writer, but right now all of her ideas just sound like TV shows; that is because instead of trying to write all she’s been doing is sitting in front of the TV. Not only is it not helping her but it’s given her a this terrible case of Writer’s block. She literally has a block coming out of her head so she can relate to Pate’s imagination shut down and she is looking for a spark of her own, maybe I.M. has a book or two for her as well.
  3. LuLu is an Opera Singer who has lost her ability to hit those high notes. That’s because she has become obsessed with “Hannah Montana” and wants to be a Pop Star but there is a crowd expecting her on stage that night as an Opera Singer so she needs to be creative and be two things at once, the Opera Star to please her adoring fans and a pop star to feed her own dreams. The only way to do it? Is to “BE CREATIVE!”
All of these wonderful characters visit Pate’ and all of them leave him with a bit of advice and creativity and at the very end each of them is transformed by not only their own imaginations but through the power of BOOKS as well. The show “Be c-READ-ative!” has all of the Acting Up Theatre Company staples that have been with them since their very first production ten years ago. Revolving colorful characters, fast moving action, comedy, pop-culture references, a moral and of course the audience participation that will have everyone in the place yelling: “BE CREATIVE!” With the audience’s help, a few books and some imagination the painting is done, the book is written and the opera is sung and the “Creativity Emergency” is all fixed. We hope we can come to your library or Summer School and help your kids “BE c-READ-ative!”

Acting Up Theatre Company has gained a reputation across the state for its educational and uplifting theatrical performances. They travel to all over state and book over 70 shows each Summer; this is their tenth anniversary of perfroming in Michigan Libraries. The show will be filled with Acting Up staples such as comedy, pop culture references, colorful costumes, audience participation, and plenty of references to the importance of reading. Dynamic, action-filled!
