11th Annual
Summer Reading Tour
One Woof, Many Stories
Acting Up Theatre Company has been providing theatrical entertainment to Michigan Libraries for the past 11 summers and 2011 won't be any different. Each summer they produce a high energy, original comedic show with revolving colorful characters and morals about the importance of reading and friendship and it always incorporates the summer reading program theme.
The theme for 2011 is “One World, Many Stories” and Acting Up Theatre Company’s production this year is entitled “One Woof, Many Stories” The play itself revolves around a young girl named Martha who as the play begins has just been told by her teacher that she has to write a paper about three different countries in the world other than the one she lives in. She thinks this is too much work; she goes to her room and lays all her problems on her All-American Mutt, Jeff. Jeff is the ultimate loyal dog, he listens and responds and when his master (Martha) wishes that he (Jeff) could “retrieve” all the research and “fetch” all the facts about the cultures, languages, dress and history of these other countries and help her write her paper; Jeff can’t wait to start “sniffing” up information. So, Jeff the All-American Mutt gets on his laptop and contacts some of his worldly canine friends. Where do dogs connect on the World Wide Web? At the social networking sites FACEBARK and WOOFER of course. When Jeff “WOOFS” his worldly friends on WOOFER and posts an “all paws bulletin” on FACEBARK he gets help from three corners of the world. He learns all about Mexico from his Chihuahua friend “Ramona” all about France from his French Poodle friend Felice and all about Germany from his German Shepherd friend Ilsa. In the end after all three of his international canine friends visits… Jeff, the loyal mutt hands over all the research and info to his master Martha, then he realizes that he did all her work and she will learn nothing from that so he teaches her a lesson in hard work and sends her to the library to do her own “retrieving” and “fetching” where she learns the value of a job well done. This show will include many facts about Mexico, France, Germany and the different breeds of dogs mentioned above.
